Hadith is the second most important source of Islamic law after the Quran and plays a major role in understanding Islamic rulings and guidelines for Muslim life. However, weaknesses in Hadith studies in Malaysia remain a concerning issue, particularly in terms of implementation and internalization within educational institutions. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the development of Hadith knowledge in the Malaysian context. Using a qualitative method and a phenomenological approach, seven Hadith scholars were interviewed to obtain diverse and in-depth perspectives on the current state of Hadith studies. The findings identified five main themes contributing to the weaknesses in Hadith education: an underdeveloped syllabus that is not aligned with current needs, a shortage of truly qualified and authoritative educators, societal perception that treats Hadith studies as a secondary field, lack of student motivation to explore Hadith knowledge in depth, and the need for more active involvement from authorities in planning and implementing Hadith knowledge development policies. This study offers valuable guidance for addressing the identified shortcomings and opens opportunities for the strategic and comprehensive advancement of Hadith knowledge in Malaysia, providing deep insights into the challenges of Hadith education in society.
